Supplying & installing the range of sectional doors
SERVICING YOUR DOOR
Every two to five years have your garage door serviced. After all this is an appliance that opens up a huge hole in the wall of your house with many moving parts.
They do go out of balance, parts do wear and adjustments need to be made
DANGER - Do not attempt to adjust the spring tension without the correct tools or knowledge. I see this time after time where people have seriously injured themselves attempting to adjust the springs
At least once a year:
Unlock your sectional garage door (pull the rope) open and close your garage door manually. This should be easy to lift and when you let it go it should stay where you have left it (it may move a small amount up or down then stop centering itself on the bend in the track) If with the bottom of the door is at knee height and it falls to the ground it requires urgent attention.
DOOR OPENER'S
The door opener is only designed to guide your door up and down. It doesn't pull the weight of the door up and down, if you leave it to carry the full weight, then this will lead to a premature failure of your automatic door opener.
OLDER SECTIONAL DOORS
There are as many makes of sectional doors out there as there is days in the month. Some of the older doors are showing signs of their age and the lack of knowledge at the time of building, (on building a durable door). Most of these can be repaired to a satisfactory standard to get more life from the door. Unfortunately some of these are companies that made a few and are now no longer going.
CEDER DOORS OR WOODEN SECTIONAL DOORS
Most of the renowned manufactures of the Cedar doors today make a very nice well balanced good looking product.
Always keep in mind a cedar door will require regular cladding maintenance to keep the timber water tight.
Older wooden doors can be extremely heavy and this balance check needs to be done - often it is just trying to find a happy medium for the best balance.
